"The marks humans leave are too often scars."
~ John Green
THEME
"The Fault in Our Stars" has a countless number of themes but i think that the mist important one is gratefulness.
People always tell you that life is short, and that you should live it to the fullest and that you should learn to appreciate all of the little things because in the long run they accumulate and make up one big one, and that the path you take will affect whether you are happy with the end result. All of this could be proven true by "The Fault in Our Stars". As you read the book you realize that maybe your life isn't as hard or terrible as you thought, you will realize that the problems you considered big all of a sudden feel small compared to some of the problems/situations the characters face in the book, but thats the thing, they are not just characters in a book, things like this happen to people all around the world. Lungs, heart, legs, hair, all of these things and many more are taken for granted and thats because to most of us that is normal, those are things that one simply just has, but unfortunately for some people thats not the case. John Green wrote this book with such sincerity that you really get to know what it feels like to be sick with cancer or what it feels like to know some one that is sick. He is really straight-forward and i think that is what gets to you, you realize you dont have cancer, you dont have to go to the hospital constantly, you dont have to watch as your parents struggle for money, you dont have to struggle to take a breath, you dont have to carry around an oxygen cart with you everywhere you go, you dont have to watch people you love die, you dont have to be strong for everyone around you, you dont have to worry abut all of the what if's, but unfortunately some people do and the characters of "The Fault in Our Stars" stand for those people. When you go through something like all the characters in the book you learn to appreciate everything and everyday, for example, most teenagers push away their mom when she tries to give them a kiss goodbye, but what they dont think about is that in a second it could all just disappear. Life changes constantly and you will never be able to predict what comes next so if you dont appreciate what you have now and take it for granted one day it might just not be there, and all you will have left to do is look back with regret and desire to change something that is out of your reach.

Gratefulness is a them widely used in books and example of one of those books is "The Hunger Games". In this book Susan Collins writes about this fictional place in the future that supposedly North America turns into. It is divided into 12 districts, she, Katniss Everdeen, the main character is is from district 12, her district is very poor and Panem, where the story takes place id ruled by a president with bizarre and cruel rules. This book , like "The Fault in Our Stars" teaches you to be grateful by showing you and painting you a picture of other peoples lives that are much worst than yours yet they are strong, they are positive, so why aren't you, after all you are the one with the better life!
